I’m not going to comment about what is too much or too little.
Here is the sort of data for only the Teacher position in CPS and surrounding Districts sorted on Total Compensation (Base Salary + Benefits + Bonus–if applicable)
It’s a bit frustrating to compare apples-to-apples because some Districts are elementary only, some are high school only, some are combined. (CPS data is combined and includes charters, contracts, and non-charters.) And there is no experience data attached to distinguish. But it’s something.
CPS isn’t dominating the top of the list. It’s not at the bottom, but there are plenty of other nearby Districts competing for teacher candidate and have teachers who are paid more.
